Millennium, an Adventure Comic

Wake the Spirits; 'save' the world! An online fantasy comic by Miluette.

Pencils of that Ronou sketch I posted yesterday with the announcement! I decided that, because of its cartoony nature, rather than trying to emulate realism in any sense, the comic should be a lot more abstract — so I tried a simpler, more stylish version of our protagonist! I like it and have been designing characters in a similar fashion since then. More as it comes!

The Future of My Comics!

The Future of My Comics!

Hello, all! I have recently come to some important decisions regarding my comics.

I’m shelving Millennium, the comic.

I’ll still be actively working on concept artwork – characters, places, and scenarios – without all the mental exhaustion of having to worry about actually making a comic. This is not the end of Millennium. The archives since 2003 remain online.

I’ll continue actively working on Lovefeast, the comic.

A stylistically simpler and much shorter comic that’s at least partially grounded in “reality”, Lovefeast is both easier to develop and to produce.

Why shelf Millennium?

There’s definitely more than one reason, and all of them pretty good ones. After eleven years, I’ve come to face them.

A quick doodle of Ronou.
There’s a style I’m nailing down for Millennium that will be simple and a lot of fun to draw.
Ronou’s face is actually more oval than rounder but I did this just ‘cause.

I’ve been playing too much with this square avatar maker. It’s fun! It’s also had me thinking about these characters’ designs again…

In order: Ronou, Mune, Sabér, Sarn, Arti, Kino

Arti and Kino are characters that don’t show up in the story for a very long time, but are pivotal characters when they do! I haven’t drawn them for a very long time.

Today’s post on Millennium is all about Ronou!

My first attempt at a Ronou Mii on my 3DS! I figured I should see how well my fictitious character designs translate into Mii form. My face did well… I think her face here is pretty decent, too, but there’s something missing. Hmm…
I remember doing Ronou’s old design as a Mii on my Wii a few years back. It turned out really boring-looking. The 3DS Mii designer adds a few more options, but Ronou’s design is totally different now — and naturally a little more interesting.

The cards came faster than I thought!

Mune and Ronou feature alongside Lovefeast's two main characters in this year's holiday card, designed by Miluette!

Warmup concepts — symbols for the Elemental Spirits.
I actually haven’t drawn them very much at all since their conception, which is weird! They each have many forms, and the symbols drawn from their legends may capture their essence; yet their presence would overwhelm people…
(The symbol for Pyre, the Fire Snake, is more detailed here because I was messing with it. It’ll be simplified.)

It’s Millennium’s Seven of Wands for the Webcomics Tarot Project! The Seven of Wands is about perseverance, which Ronou needs plenty of to get through her rather insane quest. All those different wands, possessed by friends and adversaries, will be seen throughout the comic!
I started working on this picture years ago, and one story and character overhaul later, here it is finally…one day before the new deadline, lol.
